Never be afraid to be yourself! A Lislis' rant/adv

This is what I wrote in response to a survey on MySpace asking what my headline on my profile means. I liked what I wrote so much I thought I'd post it up here to make up for the sad cat story. This is my advice to everyone- What I mean by "Never be afraid to be yourself!"

Question: What does your MySpace headline mean?

Answer: At first I thought this was asking what my name meant. O_o But since it's my headline, it means what it says: Never be afraid to be yourself. I learned a long time ago that a way (not THE way, but it's a good step!) to find peace of mind and be comfterable with yourself is if you turn a deaf ear to peer pressure and realize that you are who you want to be. If you don't want to do something that others are pressuring you to do, then simply don't. Even if you're curious about something, but something deep inside you tells you not to do it, then don't. Maturity isn't acting all full of yourself and putting/caking on make-up and dressing up and conforming to whatever the hell it is people want you to do, it's knowing that you're mature enough to ABSTAIN from the norm, and be yourself. ^_^ People tell me "You don't dress up, you don't wear make up, you don't do this or do that, you are such a kid!" and I say "Well, maybe I am. So what? I'm me and I live to the beat of my own drum. Nothing wrong with being young at heart." So yeah... that's my advice to folks, especially those with low self-esteem. You, ulitmately, decide who you are and, only you, and you alone can permit outside influences to affect how you'll turn out. If some peers think you're not cool because you won't "party" with them and get drunk, then so be it. Real friends won't sucker you into consuming substances that will influence you to make a fool out of yourself while you get sick so they can laugh at you when you're at your weakest, as drinking and drug "friends" do. Once you find real friends, you're set, and to do that, be a freind yourself. Be genuine. ^_^ So go ahead and dance like no one's watching! You were born an original, don't die a copy.
