Guya vs. Gaia? and other stuff.

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! ^___^
Yeah, two weeks late, but who cares?!
This is the first time I've really felt like it was a new year. The year transition is always a weird time for me. It just seems to come so quickly, now! It's the end of most of the festivities and I usually find January to be the bleakest month of the year. 8/ Anyone else feel this way? We take down all the beautiful Christmas stuff, and then it really IS the dead of winter. We don't get a spark of YAY until Valentines Day. o_. Which is part of why the end of the year is so weird for me- everything just starts all over again before you can really think about it. Am I making sense?
...Anyway. So, I made a new year resolution for 2K9: To be more outgoing. I've been mostly hiding away in the little box my school career has imprisoned me in, and I've become rather shy, believe it or not. Well, it's shown in my art habits- I had become a lot more introverted in my art, too.
So my new year res here is for that to change. Sure it's easy to say that NOW when I'm NOT in school, but, we'll see, I guess. I feel confident this year because I kept my resolution for 2K8: To read 12 or more books. Might sound easy, but if you had no free time like me, you'd know how hard it is to find time to sit down with a book. Which I rarely got to- and then I discovered the audiobook.
Now I can enjoy all those books I've wanted to AND do my art homework. Two birds with one stone! Haha. So with the help of audiobooks, I enjoyed up to 21 books! David and Leigh Eddings' Belgariad, and Malloreon series was among them. :3 If you're looking for an unappreciated book series, THAT would be it. HIGHLY recommended!
Moving on. So, I uploaded something. Next on my to-do list is to put up stuff I've done in school. Part of why I haven't yet is because we have a small scanner- and I have big projects. That keep me up. 24/7. And- I have been introverted about my art. So, if I haven't been too busy to find a big scanner, I've been too shy. Well, that's gonna change, too. I have a LOT of art to put up, but I don't plan to do it all at once. o.O I have other plans on my to-do list, but I won't put it all here. O.o
So, one topic that's been on my mind that's hard to explain to people is my character Guya. She's officially been living in my head for almost 14 years. O_O That's.... insane. One thing that REALLY bugs me is that everything I come up with on my own either has already been done, is being done, or will be done 3-5 years after I think of it. o.O It's a curse, I tells you! Well, Guya is and is NOT a prime example of this. Contrary to popular belief, it's not pronounced "Goo-ya". It's closer to "Gaia". I was 10 when a little lioness cub popped into my head- and after weeks of trying to think of a name, "Guya" just hit me, out of nowhere! It wasn't until high school that I learned about the Greek mythological figure Gaia. I shrugged it off- the ancient Greeks thought of everything.
But there was more. Guya just hung out in my head on her own for 2 1/2 years or so before Oryan came into the picture. Oryan is actually pronounced "Orion", but, unlike Guya, he WAS deliberately named after the constellation- which I learned of when I watched Men in Black. :3 It just sounded like a cool name to me. Oryan first formed when I tried to practice drawing how a cat's body twists when it falls- I was using a cat care book for reference. Only, I tried drawing a lion cub instead of a cat. One really neat pose stood out to me, but then I was about to trash it before I felt Guya in the recesses of my mind say "Don't!" One of the first times one of my original characters ever spoke to me. So I asked her "Why not? It's just a drawing. And a bad one, too." She responded "He's my friend!" ---Now THAT was weird. "He? Who is he?" ---So she told me more about this mysterious lion cub that showed up on paper to me. Together, we discussed how they met and literally shaped their story on THAT sketch. Why was he falling? Did he live...? One thing lead to another and their story took off in my head. It was winter when this happened. Later that week I was watching Men in Black. Orion just stuck when I heard it. And the constellation was out. So, we (me and Guya) just went with it. It just sounded like an awesome name for a lion. He liked it, too! Oryan, my fallen star. Only I spelled his name differently, to make him unique. So yes, it's "Orion", not "Or-yen". o.O It just sounded so good: Guya and Oryan. Gaia and Orion. Union between Earth and Sky. Such a pair!
Fast forward some- high school, I read about Gaia. In early college, I learned that Orion, the hunter, had upset the goddess Gaia by over-hunting. So, she siced a giant scorpion, Scorpio, after him. Zeus decided to protect Orion by having him set before Scorpio ever came out, so they can never be seen in the night sky together. The milky way is supposed to be the poison from the tip of Scorpio's tail, still stretching across the heavens in search of Orion to this day. So, little fun fact- in mythology, they were enemies. In my head, they're best friends. o.O
But- is Guya purely original? I mean, I did come up with it on my own. Well, I just realized something. A little trick. What separates Guya from Gaia is the "y" sound. It's not "Goo-ya", but it's not really "Gaia", either. I ALWAYS pronounced it with a "y". So, if anything, it's more like "Gai-ya". Gai- and ya. Not "Gai-ah"; it's "Gai-YA". :3 So- that's original enough for me. There's Gaia, and then there's Guya. There IS a difference. :3

And I had to stop. @_@ (Note, this is more a review on why I stopped reading Breaking Dawn-- spoilers abound. You've been warned o_O )
....I had to stop reading this. Well, actually, I've been listening to the audio book since I am too busy to read for fun, so technically, I had to stop listening to this. @_@ I'm sorry but the whole imprinting on children thing.... makes me want to retch. My stomach lurches just thinking about it. I know, I know, it's the whole Protector deal but.... still- it'd eventually be like marrying your uncle or something. o_O Just... Geh. My issues were this was more like an epilogue story. There were no villians to really drive the plot, the first few chapters were the adventures in Vampy-boy and Emo-girl's sex life on a magical little island far far away where no one can hear you *beepbeepbeep* -republican!-*beepbeepbeeeeep!* (cookies to whoever gets that reference!) ----And while Meyer didn't totally go romance novel on us, thank God, the mental images still won't go away... And from there I was able to figure the rest out. I was like "Let me guess: they's gonna has a babie yes. Even tho that doesn't make a lot of sense that vampygirls are infertile and vampyboys aren't. And thens Bella ish gonna has some sortsa abnormal preggyness, yes. Baby gonna prolly reach maturity faster and be flawless yes. And..... What about Jacob? ......*ponderponderponder-REALIZE* ....Don't wanna think about it." A few peeks at some Amazon.com reviews confirmed my fears. 8/
So--- I couldn't bring myself to finish this. Sickeningly predictable, and man do I mean sickeningly, no driven plot since the villains were wiped out prematurely, annnd.... yeah. Oh, and the message was awful, too. Maybe I've been spoiled by other books like The Giver, Potter, David Eddings, (heh, these books kinda center on choices as their themes, don't they?) but to me, books need a GOOD message to deliver. In all my writing classes, I had to deliver a message or drive a point home, regardless of if it were a ceative writing assignment or an essay- and I have read several essays (Plato's cave allegory, Jonathan Swift's Modest Proposal being some of my favs) which also have a message- I am digressing a little, but my point is when you write or tell a story, there is something you want to communicate, entertainingly or not. This series, if it did have a message, and I indeed think it did, it's a bad one: You are nothing without your man. Regardless of if he talks down to you or mistreats you, you need a man to be happy. Growing up and aging is the worst thing that can happen to you unless sex is involved. Forget learning to be yourself and face some alone time before you're ready for an intense relationship, forget perusing an education, in the end, all you need is your man, to be married at 18, and a baby. Yep.
I think not. If I had a little sister in high school, I wouldn't want her reading this. o_O She could read it after a few years of college and a reality check, but..... egads.
Maybe I am being too harsh, too judgmental, and taking this too seriously- it's fiction after all. Pure entertainment. I get that. I DO plan to read more, but not now. I'll wait. When I first started this series, I liked the first book. It was the adventures of Vampyboy and Emogirl. Cute. Interesting. I thought some people were either too generous or too harsh in their reviews. But from book 2 (which was exciting at points but I wanted to SLAP Edward!) on.... I wanted to hit my head. Repeatedly. What ultimately turned me off though was the imprinting on babies/toddlers thing. *puke* I know the other side of the argument but still...
I'm more reviewing on the series as a whole, but I'm also leaving stuff out. Like how I wanted to STRANGLE Jacob after a while! "I'll never hurt you Bella- *hurts*" then he comes crawling back with his tail between his legs- then it's "I promised I'd never hurt you--*hurts, insults her friends, betrays trust, hurts again, is a total *******, forced tongue kiss/ASSAULT!, etc*-- Dude, did anyone else notice a pattern going on here?! He's one of those guys who keeps backstabbing you then comes crawling back all apologetic, which is probably fake, meaningless, and just good acting skills on his part, and he then goes on and hurts you again. And some people says he treats Bella like a girl!? Sorry but if a guy treated me like this, I wouldn't let him repeat offenses- he'd be out of my life the FIRST time he screwed me over. If not the first, definately the second, with a restraining order stapled to his forehead. Gals, don't put up with that! o_O Have some more respect for yourself- or you'll be a doormat! Sorry Jacob lovers, but.... that's how I feel. I liked him at first, really, I did, but after he became a werewolf and his personality pretty much changed, I just wanted to kick him! I shoulda saved that rant for a review on Eclipse but... I had to get it out. *steps off the soap box*

Hoooooooooboy.
It's been a while since I updated, so I thought I would. Just to let you all know I'm alive and kicking. :-P
So! Updates in my life? Starting a new semester at school, and I'm OH SO CLOSE to getting a B.F.A in Illustration! Kinda ironic for the lack of uploads, right? I actually do have a portfolio going, but not much time to photograph my work and put it up here. :/ They make me work big-I wish I had a bigger scanner.... Anyway, I -do- plan on putting some school-art up. GOOD NEWS is I'm finally getting more inspired to draw for fun! I haven't been lately because of--- a lot of things. o_O But it's coming back to me. I can feel it.
Bad news (sorta)- I still, as of now, technically have two years left until I graduate. ;_; *sigh* I am actually 9 classes away from my degree. 9 stinkin' classes! 4 of which I am taking now! BUT- the other three are Illustration classes, and they can't be taken simultaneously. I am taking Illustration 1 now- then I2 in Spring, then Advanced Illustration 1&2 await me in Fall '09 and Spring '10. :/ So near, yet so far. ;_; I got light headed when I learned this. -_-; I've come a long way, and I still have some ways to go... If I knew what classes at LBCC weren't transferable, I would have saved some time. :/ Oh well. At least I have more experience under my belt.
And- these extra 2 years do gave me some time to look into a credential, I could save time with that instead of waiting two years to graduate, THEN work on it. O_o;;
Anyway, right now I'm taking Illustration 1, Art History, Yoga because my back is killing me, Watercolor and Anatomy for the Artist- yay muscles! o.O So, fwee.
Next semester I am looking at Illustration 2, Production for Fine arts.... and, not needed for an Illustration major but, I want Character Design! :3 I am also going to submit my portfolio. >.>
I thought I'd be done sooner, but... :/ It looks like God has other plans. And I think I have an idea why He wants me to wait.
OH! In other news- Next month, Brae and I are approaching our.... *drum roll* 2nd Anniversary! <3 I'm SO excited! I can't wait. Oh! Did I ever post about last years anniversary? THAT was a day to remember- everything that could go wrong DID go wrong- in the funny Malcolm in the Middle sort of way. O_O We can laugh at it now, though. But I will share that story for another time- I wish to do it justice. *snerks*
Anyway, that's all for now, I guess. Still alive, and still busy!

It's been a while since I updated, so I thought I would. Just to let you all know I'm alive and kicking. :-P

BUT- the other three are Illustration classes, and they can't be taken simultaneously. I am taking Illustration 1 now- then I2 in Spring, then Advanced Illustration 1&2 await me in Fall '09 and Spring '10. :/ So near, yet so far. ;_; I got light headed when I learned this. -_-; I've come a long way, and I still have some ways to go... If I knew what classes at LBCC weren't transferable, I would have saved some time. :/ Oh well. At least I have more experience under my belt.
And- these extra 2 years do gave me some time to look into a credential, I could save time with that instead of waiting two years to graduate, THEN work on it. O_o;;
Anyway, right now I'm taking Illustration 1, Art History, Yoga because my back is killing me, Watercolor and Anatomy for the Artist- yay muscles! o.O So, fwee.
Next semester I am looking at Illustration 2, Production for Fine arts.... and, not needed for an Illustration major but, I want Character Design! :3 I am also going to submit my portfolio. >.>
I thought I'd be done sooner, but... :/ It looks like God has other plans. And I think I have an idea why He wants me to wait.
OH! In other news- Next month, Brae and I are approaching our.... *drum roll* 2nd Anniversary! <3 I'm SO excited!
I can't wait. Oh! Did I ever post about last years anniversary? THAT was a day to remember- everything that could go wrong DID go wrong- in the funny Malcolm in the Middle sort of way. O_O We can laugh at it now, though. But I will share that story for another time- I wish to do it justice. *snerks*Anyway, that's all for now, I guess.

Yep. I've been 23 for a little over a month now. And as time has passed, I've found more and more little reminders of my age.
You know you're getting on in age when ideal birthday/Christmas/whatever gifts involve things like DENTIST TRIPS (Lislis no has health care anymore
), and things you can use to make food with like blenders (I wanna make milkshakes, smoothies and ice blends! :9 Blame Brae for teaching me. ) ) and other goodies rather than things like manga, books, and DVDs. o.O
Yeeup. Growing up. Gettin' old.
OH! I'm learning more and more cooking tricks everyday. :3 I can make stir-frys, pasta, veggie burgers, all sortsa fun stuff. ^_^ Bwahaha! Though I still pride myself in my specialty: Tea and cookies.
Only bad thing... I miss my Brae! ;_; ...The crazy thing is- we're approaching 2 years together. O_O Wow...

Holy Karp, I've been a very busy Lislis lately!
First, I want to apologize for the long hiatus. Not like I can promise that it won't happen again But I CAN promise change. Ah, sometimes, change is a good thing. I am taking the opportunity to update this thing now to 1. let you know that I am alive and 2. I DO plan to upload more art. Yep. If I don't update now, I'd have to wait another week- and I've been through this before. 
Okay! So- where on earth have I been?! At school. I completed my first semester at the Cal State with flying colors. :3 My one year anniversary with my Love was a funny story (we can laugh at it now) since Murphy's Law follows me EVERYWHERE, and it did so especially that night. My car ran out of gas, I borrowed his dad's car, we used google maps, got lost and we were almost an hour late for the play (We were going to see My Fair Lady at a dinner theater- so we didn't eat and we were starving. X_X ) What's funny now is we already passed the year and a half mark. O_O Where does time go?
Really, where does the time go? Already, we're down to the last month of Spring semester at the Cal State- and finals crunch time is.... quite literally starting to crunch down on me! D: Three papers due Wednesday, one BIG ONE due Thursday, a class to teach, and that, friends, is the tip of the iceberg! Though, I DO enjoy volunteering at the homeless shelter. <3 (In fact, that is what my report that's due on Thursday is on!) It's such an amazing experience. And humbling, in a good way.
Now. I think I've updated ya enough on my life. Now for my blue-prints for world domination! >3 ...*ahem!* Uh, I mean, now for my artist plans.
I FINALLY have PHOTOSHOP! YAAAY! Photoshop CS3. (And a good thing, too, it's saved my skin in one of my classes!) My Love, Brae, had a little 'talk' with Windows Vista on my laptop- and now Photoshop finally works. Which is why I celebrated by coloring the Glomp picture. :3 *points to it* Prettie?! I think I just fell even more in Love. <3
.... Anyway. Now that I have Photoshop, I can actually color stuff and still have time for school. YATTA! Now- as for this-- PLANS. Plans plans plans. Yis....
First- I wanna new Deviant name. But I don't want to delete this account, move all my art or whatever. Yourcommentsallmeanjustthatmuchtome. So- is there a way I can do this? Change my user name? If not- I GUESS I could keep HuntressGuya (since there is a neat story and coincidence to it) but... If I could change it, it'd either be along the lines of "Lislis" "Teh Lislis" or the name for my studio which I am considering. I use it in one of my stories- Kyrie. (Pronounced "Keer-e-ay", not "Keer-ee") It's really pretty sounding. :3 But I think "Kyrie Kreations" just sounds... hokey. I dunno, Studio Kyrie? Kyrie Studio? Kyrie Produtions? What do you think? o.o I can settle with HuntressGuya for now but... mrow. Other changes- more uploads, more colors, more yay!
I am also considering making a serious portfolio account. Or turning this into one.
If not, I do have plans set for a portfolio website. Yep. I just need to title it. My hiatus has not gone to waste, I do have stuff gathered up for it.
Anyway--- I've got reports to outline, stuff to print and then some. @_@ Like I said- I've been busy. But I shall try not to neglect this place for so long. Just-- don't expect much life from me until after finals.
